Miley Cyrus’ brother, Trace Cyrus, has called out their dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, for skipping their grandmother's funeral to attend a fashion show. Taking to his Instagram on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Trace criticized him for being "hungry for fame" and "delusional."
The post included a photo of the 63-year-old country singer, with a caption featuring the clown emoji. He wrote:
"This man is so hungry for fame it’s pathetic. He really flew to Italy for a fashion show but wouldn’t come to LA for Mammie’s funeral while he was still married to my mom."

Trace Cyrus referred to his grandmother (Tish’s mother), Loretta Finley, as Mammie, who passed away in August 2020. According to the 36-year-old musician, Tish and Billy Ray were still together at the time. He added that his father did not attend the funeral despite his "daughter" paying for a "60k private jet" upon his demand.

In his latest Instagram post, Trace Cyrus stated that he was "embarrassed" to ever consider Billy Ray Cyrus his "idol." Calling him the "lamest person to walk the planet Earth," the 36-year-old wrote:
"The best thing to come from your downfall is it made me go into beast mode. I refuse to be a washed up, delusional, evil person when I'm old like you."
In an Instagram story on June 10, the musician continued to comment about his father, noting that his long hair made him look "homeless." He wrote:
"Also, why does he think that homeless hairstyle looks good? So weird."
In a subsequent IG story, the 36-year-old shared a screenshot of a fan comment that suggested his remarks were a "cry for help," adding that he "desperately" needed "attention" from his father. The fan even noted that "bullying" Cyrus was not the answer.
The image also included Trace Cyrus' reply, stating he was "past the point" of caring if he ever spoke to his father. Stating that he had "surpassed" Billy Ray in "every metric as a man," the 36-year-old added:
"I had hope at one point but I'm convinced he's finally a lost cause."
The IG tirade follows his previous post shared in January 2025, criticizing Billy Ray's performance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration. At the time, he expressed deep admiration for the Achy Breaky Heart singer as a child but added that he could "barely recognize" his father now. Trace Cyrus wrote:
"The man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you."
He claimed that he and his siblings were "genuinely worried" about Billy, but the latter kept pushing everyone away.
Notably, Billy Ray Cyrus married Tish in 1993. The pair share three children: daughters Miley, 32, and Noah, 25, and son Braison, 32. The country superstar adopted Tish's children, Brandi, 38, and Trace. Cyrus is also a father to Christopher, 33, born to a waitress in 1992.
Tish and Billy filed for a divorce in April 2022. By November of the same year, the country singer was engaged to Australian musician Firerose. Meanwhile, Tish began dating Prison Break star Dominic Purcell.
Rumors of a family dispute began when Noah and Braison were absent from Tish's wedding to Purcell. Miley was also absent from her father's wedding to Firerose in 2023 (they separated eight months later).
However, the Cyrus family has since reunited. Reflecting on the time during her appearance on Monica Lewinsky's Reclaiming podcast on June 10, Miley explained that she felt "a lot of loyalty" to her mother when her parents split. However, she explained they started reconnecting one step at a time, eventually trying to reach a place where they could have difficult conversations.
According to the NY Post, in a May 2025 IG story, Miley wrote that despite having differences, she has since bridged her relationship with Billy Ray. She added that family remained her top priority.
Billy Ray Cyrus has not publicly reacted to Trace Cyrus' comments.
