Rapper Young Thug's appearance at the 2025 BET Awards wearing what appears to be a mask featuring a furry tail-like structure, paired with a tuxedo. He was also holding a furry bag-like accessory, accompanied by his partner, Mariah the Scientist.

While the rapper previously made headlines for being at the centre of Georgia's longest-running criminal trial, his outfit at the BET event made headlines this time.

Netizens took to X to comment on Young Thug's outfit at the 2025 BET Awards, wherein an X user expressed confusion over his ensemble and tweeted:

"Wait is he carrying a duck? And has a raccoon’s tail as a tie???"
"The guy looks like a f*cking idiot. Is he wearing a dead raccoon in his face ?" an X user commented
"This ni**a wearing a squirrel tail tie and a serial killer mask?!? 🤯 wth going on, Thugger?? 😭 I guess it’s better than them damn dresses" another X user mentioned
"Thug known for his fits. No one said they was good fits tho" an internet user stated

On the other hand, some netizens joked about the rapper seemingly appearing in a hurry in a viral video of his appearance on the red carpet:

"Homie tryna get outta there quick" an X user tweeted
"It's the way he's dressed and the way he's pulling her away—both so cringe" a netizen remarked, referring to Thug holding Mariah's hand and the both of them walking through the red carpet quickly
"They gave him probation to perform some more humiliation rituals…Is that a couples raccoon set they got on?👀" another netizen joked

"That headspace definitely came from seeing me': Young Thug comments on influencing and pioneering style statements

Years after having a prominent influence in the rap arena, Young Thug was arrested in 2022 as part of a complicated RICO case wherein prosecutors alleged that he was the head of a dangerous criminal street gang called YSL operating under the record label with the same name.

The rapper took a non-negotiated plea deal after spending 2 and a half years in prison and pled guilty to 6 charges, including possession of drugs and firearms and participating in criminal street gang activity.

After his release from prison in October 2024, the rapper gave an interview to GQ in April 2025, given that he remained low-key for quite some time following his plea deal. During the interview, Young Thug talked about pioneering multiple style statements like "wearing a dress."

For the unversed, Thug sported an Alessandro Trincone dress on the cover of his 2016 project, Jeffrey.

"I never saw nobody wear a dress. Then soon as I did, people were like, Oh, André 3000, this and that, and this guy and this guy and this guy did and this guy did it. " the rapper said

When asked about influencing style in the industry, Young Thug took credit and said that he often does something "supercool" in fashion, and someone else follows in his footsteps. The rapper acknowledged that while people don't copy his exact style, they "wouldn’t have even thought to do what you did if you didn’t see me."

"I wore skinny jeans when everybody wore big jeans. I just never liked long chains back then. I got a lot of long chains now, but back then I never liked long chains, so I was probably the first rapper ever cutting chains." Thug mentioned

However, the rapper added that after he saw videos of Tupac from '93 to '94, he realized that Tupac also wore a short chain, which shattered his belief that he was the "first person doing it."

One of the terms of Young Thug's probation bars him from returning to Atlanta for the first 10 years of the probation, except for particular reasons. Additionally, he is restrained from promoting gang activity or being around gang members.
