Riley Gaines shared her thoughts on the WNBA denying her and the media outfit Outkick the required media credentials for Olympic champion and WNBA player Brittney Griner's match held on June 6. Griner's team i.e. the Atlanta Dream recently competed against the Connecticut Sun in a game which they lost by 76-84.

In her conversation with Fox News, the swimmer turned social activist explained why she was denied the media credentials for the match over her previous statement against Brittney Griner, and also took a jibe at the WNBA for the same. In her words,

"I've never seen an organization more committed to self imploding than the WNBA. A few weeks ago, this video [which she shared] highlighting how the fierce Brittney Griner said, '******* White Girl' after fouling out against the Indiana Fever, the team Caitlin Clark plays for."

Gaines further added,

"Some people like the Jemele Hill from ESPN herself says that no she didn't say it, she said, '***** Black ****'. You can watch and make up your mind as to what Brittney Griner appears to be saying. Someone says, 'There's one way to find out : Ask Brittney Griner'. However, no one has done that, except for Outkick."

Riley Gaines had previously called out Angel Reese over her standoff with Caitlin Clark. She had also backed the stance of NBA legend Charles Barkley over the presence of trans athletes in women's sports.

Notably, Griner was accused of manhandling Clark during the clash, which left fans divided. A video later emerged where Griner was seen referring to Clark with derogatory names. Gaines responded to the same by sharing her thoughts on her X timeline [previously Twitter], where she wrote in the caption:

"Brittney Griner appeared to call Caitlin Clark “trash” and a “f***ing white girl” after fouling out last night. Just a reminder: this is who we traded for the Russian Merchant of Death. Now imagine if Clark had said the inverse!"

For the unversed, Riley Gaines was referring to Brittney Griner's imprisonment in Russia. During the clashes between Russia and Ukraine, the Olympic champion basketball player was arrested by the Russian authorities for alleged possession of cannabis oil, for which she was imprisoned for almost a year, until she was exchanged in a prison swap between the US and Russia in December 2022.
