Fans are poised for an ultimate showdown on the coming weekend as the 2024 London Marathon is slated for Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Over 50,000 runners will take on the London streets to participate in one of the seven World Major Marathons of the year. Elite athletes, including world record holder Tigst Assefa, Brigid Kosgei, Ruth Chepngetich, Kenenisa Bekele, Tamirat Tola, and Dawit Wolde will vie to clinch the top position at the second Major Marathon of the Olympic year.

On that note, let's take a look at the routes, start times, road closures, and weather forecast ahead of the marathon.


2024 London Marathon Routes

The 2024 London Marathon route will feature a number of the city's landmarks. Beginning at Blackheath, the athletes will cross through Charlton and Woolwich before entering Greenwich. The athletes will run past the Bird Cage Walk and the Majestic Buckingham Palace before crossing the finish line at The Mall.

The athletes will be treated to a string of spectacles while running past some of the city's most iconic attractions and monuments, including Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, The Tower of London, The London Eye, Big Ben, and the Buckingham Palace.


2024 London Marathon Start Times

The 2024 London Marathon will witness the elite wheelchair race commence first, followed by elite women and men. The timings of these are given below.

Elite wheelchair race: 4:05 am

Women's elite race: 4:25 am

Men's elite race: 5 am

To achieve a smoother flow conducting the marathon and to minimize inconvenience to the citizens, a few roads will be temporarily closed. The list of which is given below.

2024 London Marathon Weather Forecast

According to Sporting News, the athletes can expect pleasant and cool weather conditions. The temperature is expected to elevate to 7 to 11 degrees Celsius only later in the day.
