Mikaela Shiffrin posts heartfelt message for fiance Aleksander Kilde as the latter suffers major setback in his shoulder recovery journey

World Champion skier Mikaela Shiffrin posted a picture with her fiance Aleksander Kilde who is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained earlier this year in January. Shiffrin posted a message of hope for her fiance as he continues rehabilitation from injury.

The Norwegian alpine skier dislocated his shoulder and sustained a cut to his calf while competing in a downhill race in Wengen in January. Kilde crashed during the World Cup race and was airlifted to a hospital.

Shiffrin posted a heartfelt picture of them together and wrote on Instagram:

"Out of the many lessons I learn from you, one of the greatest is— Smile. Even through the shit. ❤️🥹🥴 I love you @akilde Forward❤️."

Kilde and Shiffrin have been in a relationship since 2021 and got engaged in April this year.

Kilde provided an update about his rehabilitation and said he was struggling with an infection. He wrote on Instagram:

"Long story short - I got an angry infection that has caused some damage, which is quite a setback in my shoulder rehab. This means 6 weeks of IV antibiotics everyday through a PICC line that lives in my arm until the infection is all gone and the bone is back smiling. After those 6 weeks we’ll see what the next steps will be."

Dr. Trond Floberghagen, the Norwegian Alpine National Team's doctor, was quoted as saying about Kilde's latest setback (via skiracing.com):

“It is far too early to say anything about the prognosis, but this will require a new rehabilitation period.”

Norwegian skier Aleksander Kilde dislocated his shoulder and tore a ligament following a horrific crash during a race in Wengen. After hospitalization and treatment for injuries, Kilde posted a picture with bruises on his face alongside Mikaela Shiffrin on Instagram.

He captioned the post:

"I’m here (and being taken care of by the one and only @mikaelashiffrin ❤️‍🩹)…patched up…thank you so much for all of the messages. I’m grateful for all the words of love and support. This sport can be brutal, but I still love it."

Five months after the injury, Kilde was back skiing in June. Shiffrin posted a photo on X (former Twitter) of her fiance skiing with the caption:

"Look who’s back on the snow!"
