Femke Bol put forward a blistering performance in the women's 400m hurdles at the Resisprint International 2024 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The Dutch athlete registered her personal best along with several other records in the process of winning the title at the track meet weeks before the Paris Olympics.
Femke Bol clocked 50.95s in the 400m hurdles and in the process became the second woman to break the 51s barrier in the event after Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone. Moreover, she clocked the third-fastest women's 400m hurdles of all time creating a new European record as well as a new Dutch National record.
Her incredible performance took the track world by storm and fans expressed their excitement on social media. Soon after the race, some fans started comparisons between world record holder Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone and Bol, as they all set to go head to head at the Paris Olympics for the ultimate crown. On the other hand, some fans appreciated her incredible performance.
"Sydney is not fazed. She ran that 50.65 with a 15 step pattern. Bol runs 50.96 with a 14 step pattern. Syd already said she was going to do 14 steps in Paris - she's going sub 50s," wrote a fan.
"And she ran by herself!!!! Add Sydney to the mix 🤯 someone send me a ticket for Paris ,"another fan chimed in.
"Incredible stuff from Femke Bol.They say La-Chaux-De-Fonds is known for its fast times, but so is Hayward Field. It could be closer than previously thought, but I still think Syd's taking it," wrote another fan.
Here are some more fan reactions:
"I feel bad for Femke having to race in Sydney’s era," a fan tweeted.
" Just 0.3s off of McLaughlin-Levrone's #USA world record! The 400m hurdles will be the signature races at #Paris2024," another chimed in.
" Sydney can go even lower on her WR 50.65 pushed by Bol...," a fan claimed.
Femke Bol opens up on competing alongside Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone
Femke Bol spoke about competing alongside Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone in a post-race interview after winning the gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow earlier this year. She revealed that she was eager to compete against the best while claiming that Mclaughlin-Levrone is the 'best ever' in hurdles.
"I love competing, I love to race. I love to compete against the best. It's always amazing to race with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone because she is the best-ever in hurdles," she said.
Having won the bronze medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the Tokyo Olympics, Bol will be in a quest for her first-ever Olympic Gold medal in Paris. She will be competing against USA's Sydney Mclaughlin-Levrone as the American aims to defend her Olympic Title.
