When Ali Feller opened up about the first time she was diagnosed with breast cancer

Ali Feller was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in May 2023 and then went through a double mastectomy, reconstruction, four rounds of chemotherapy, and one year of immunotherapy. Her treatment concluded in September 2024, and she shared a glimpse of her celebration on her Instagram handle.

Shortly after this, in December 2024, Feller sat for a conversation with NPR's Juana Summers and fielded questions surrounding the ins and outs of her first diagnosis, including how she managed herself after getting overwhelmed and took care of her family at the same time.

Revealing that her coping mechanism was to cry, she opened up about how she handled things during her first diagnosis.

"I cry all the time when I'm feeling overwhelmed. But you don't have that luxury if you have a job and relationships and a child, which my daughter was four when I was diagnosed," said Ali Feller.

"Running has been a huge part of my life for a long time now, but for some reason, when I got this diagnosis, I just couldn't seem to find - not the will to run, but I was already going through this hard thing, and running is inherently hard. And I think it was just one more hard thing. And so I just slowed it down, and I started walking," she added.

In the same interview, Ali Feller revealed that the only reason for her staying strong is her daughter, Annie, stating that she just wants to show up for her and be her mother. The runner and the podcast host will start her chemotherapy after being diagnosed with cancer for the second time on June 10, 2025.
