The Rome Diamond League brought with it an exciting array of events. As the top athletes across the globe got down to action at the Stadio Olimpico, fans were treated to some cutthroat competition.
One of the most thrilling performances of the day came in the men's 100m sprint. The line-up for the event included Trayvon Bromell, Fred Kerley, Courtney Lindsey, and Ferdinand Omanyala. In a closely fought battle, it was Bromell who emerged victorious, clocking a time of 9.84s to outdo the world lead of 9.86s set by Kenny Bednarek and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu earlier this year.
Elsewhere, Beatrice Chebet put on a world-leading display in the women's 5000m race. The Kenyan absolutely dominated the field, clocking a time of 14:03.69 to finish more than 15 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Her time, which was only two seconds shy of the world record, marks a new meet and national record, as well as a world lead.
Another exciting event at the Rome Diamond League was the men's 400m. The race saw an incredibly close battle between Paris Olympics gold-medalist Quincy Hall and South Africa’s Zakithi Nene. In the end, Hall crossed the line in 44.22s, while Nene was right behind him with a 44.23s. Rounding out the top three alongside them was Busang Collen Kebinatshipi.
