Bethenny Frankel, the American television personality and entrepreneur, recently opened up about suffering a miscarriage in 2012 while she was in a “suffocating” marriage with her ex-husband Jason Hoppy.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the 53-year-old appeared in a new episode of her Just B Divorced podcast and said,

"In a constructive way, I said, ‘I’m kind of relieved … because I don’t think this is a healthy or positive relationship.' It was a nightmare that it happened. [That was] my first step to saying something."

Frankel filed for divorce in January 2013. However, there was a lengthy legal battle that ended with the finalization of divorce in January 2021.

Bethenny Frankel first met Jason Hoppy in 2008 at a bar called Tenjune in New York City's meatpacking district. They tied the knot in a lavish televised wedding on March 28, 2010. The former couple share a daughter, Bryn Hoppy, who was born on May 8, 2010, in New York City. They announced their separation in December 2012, filed for divorce in 2013, and the proceedings ended in 2021.

Bethenny Frankel recently revealed that she would be candid about her 10-year divorce in a new podcast, Just B Divorced. On Tuesday, April 16, The Real Housewives of New York City alum said that she was relieved to have a miscarriage in 2012, about a year before filing for divorce.

The reality TV star reflected on her situation at the time as the mother of a young girl, in a strained marriage, and six weeks pregnant with their second child. Bethenny Frankel said the news pushed her to be true to herself and look for divorce lawyers.

She first addressed the pregnancy loss in June 2012 in an interview with Glamour. The star said it was "high risk" because she was over 40. Bethenny Frankel admitted that she experienced “relief” at the time, but not because of her and Hoppy’s rocky relationship.

"I blamed myself — of course I did. Afterward, I went through a range of emotions. There was something so sad about it — that there had been a life there, and then suddenly it was not there. There was also, I have to admit, a bit of relief that I wouldn't be starting my new TV job seven months pregnant. And then there was immense guilt at the relief," she told Glamour.

The reality star also revealed in the recent podcast that she was not interested in Hoppy when they first met. She said she tried to convince herself that she should be into this because of her life at that time.

The Skinnygirl mogul recalled living alone in her small apartment without much money and feeling pressured to adhere to society's norms.

"I let the universe tell me that I was in my late thirties and that you're supposed to be having kids by then, or you're supposed to know what road you're on. I didn't really have family, so I had no safety net, no security with money and no idea. And I just wanted to be wanted," she said.

During an earlier episode of the podcast, Bethenny Frankel claimed she has post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from her lengthy divorce, and it was one of the reasons she had not married again.

She has been engaged to producer Paul Bernon for three years.
