Sloane Simon, a 20-year-old contestant on The Voice, received praise from all four coaches, including Snoop Dogg. Following her The Voice performance in the playoffs round on November 26, 2024, Snoop stated,

"I'm so proud of you right now,"

This moment came after Simon revealed that her father had passed away just days before her appearance on The Voice. Despite the personal tragedy, Simon chose to continue competing, honoring her father's memory and demonstrating significant emotional resilience.

Sloane Simon’s decision to continue on The Voice after her father’s death

Simon began playing guitar at the age of eight when her parents bought her the instrument to help her cope with her mother’s battle with aggressive spinal cancer. Although her mother went into remission, her cancer later returned, and she underwent surgery. At the same time, Simon’s father was diagnosed with late-stage cancer, creating additional emotional strain on the family.

Sloane Simon revealed that her father passed away shortly before The Voice episode aired, just days after being given a prognosis of only a few days to a couple of weeks to live. Despite her grief, Simon chose to remain in the competition.

She explained that her father had always encouraged her to pursue her dreams, and she felt his support even after his passing. Simon said that he told her it would be 'crazy to turn back' so she 'sang for him'. She also added,

"It's tough not being with my family but he wants me to be here."

She also shared that her family—her mother, siblings, and other relatives—encouraged her to stay, as they recognized the significance of this opportunity for Simon and the family as a whole. Simon stated,

“My mom wants me to be here, my sister and my brother, everybody wants me to be here because this opportunity, being here gives them something to be excited for too.”

The emotional performance and coaches’ reactions

In The Voice playoffs round, Simon performed Chappell Roan's song Good Luck, Babe! with her father’s recent death weighing heavily on her. After her performance, coach Michael Bublé expressed his admiration for Simon’s strength and bravery. Bublé remarked,

"I know how brave you are. You just lost your dad...I know you and your family are going through stuff....You said that you would stay because he would've wanted you to be here."

Snoop Dogg also expressed his support before standing up to embrace Simon, saying,

"The spirit of your father is telling me to give you a hug right now,"

Despite the emotional response from the coaches, Simon was not selected to move forward in the competition. Bublé chose Sofronio Vasquez and Shye to continue to the live shows, but he made it clear that Simon’s performance had made a significant impact. Bublé said,

"No. 1, I love you. No. 2, I thought your performance was marvelous. No. 3, I know that your dad must be so proud of you,"

In a one-on-one conversation, Bublé further acknowledged Simon’s strength, stating,

“It is a testament to her strength that she’s here and I have no idea how she found the inner strength to do what she did today.”
