America's Got Talent (AGT) is back for a 19th season in 2024, with more memorable performances, all-genre acts, and tough competition. The winner receives a big prize of $1 million and a headline slot in Las Vegas. This season has an additional twist to the format of the show.

In season 19, there is an extra Golden Buzzer during the Live Shows, which gives it power like never before. The Golden Buzzer was mostly used during auditions to send an act straight to the live shows in previous seasons. In the upcoming quarterfinals, for the first time in AGT history, each judge will be able to give out two Golden Buzzers.

Now, during each week of the quarterfinals, one judge will be able to give a Live Show Golden Buzzer to any act they want. This sends the act straight to the finals. Three more acts will move on to the live semifinal based on America's vote.

How does America’s Got Talent 2024 work?

The format of AGT season 19 remains the same as previous seasons, but it has some additional features. The competition is divided into four rounds: auditions, live quarterfinals, live semifinals, and the two-week final event. Auditions started on May 28, 2024, and had eight two-hour episodes.

In each episode, contestants perform in front of the judges, which include Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara. To move ahead in the competition, the contestants need to get a yes from at least three judges. A single red 'X' will lead to elimination, whereas a golden buzzer will help them to go directly to the live shows.

After that, the top 44 acts from the auditions were revealed and grouped into four for the Live Quarterfinals. The quarterfinals last for four weeks, with 11 acts competing each week. This is a significant change compared to the previous seasons.

A live Quarterfinals twist and more golden buzzers than ever for AGT 19

In the past, each judge had one Golden Buzzer that they could use during the auditions of AGT to send their favorite act straight to the live shows. In season 19, the added twist is that each judge gets to use an extra Golden Buzzer during the Quarterfinals, which sends one act straight to the Finals, in the 4 Quarterfinal episodes.

Winners of the Golden Buzzer get to go straight to the Finals without having to go through the Semifinals. This gives them more time to prepare their final act and compete for the $1 million prize.

Along with the four Golden Buzzer winners, viewers can vote on six more acts in the semifinals to make the Top 10. One of these 10 acts will be in the two-week Finale event.

What is the AGT schedule?

Season 19 of America's Got Talent airs every Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC. The episodes last for two hours. Once the live shows begin on August 13, 2024, there will also be an hour-long live results show every Wednesday at 8/7c. Those who missed the live shows can stream new episodes on Peacock starting at 6 am ET the following morning.

The extended two-week finale will decide which act wins the $1 million prize and the coveted title of 2024 America's Got Talent (AGT) champion. Fans can catch all the previous auditon episodes currently streaming on Peacock.
