In Landman, it is plain to see that the workers who are responsible for the ground operations at drilling rigs have the most to lose. In fact, the narrative feels more believable because it tries to encapsulate the on-ground challenges as faithfully as possible.

The real magnitude of hardships can be better understood in Black Gold. Containing five seasons and 44 episodes, the reality-documentary show documents different oil drilling rigs and the effort that it takes to locate and retrieve crude oil.

This entertaining show will help the fans of Landman understand the different processes involved in oil extraction. It also puts focus on real roughnecks with different personalities who have to find a way to work together and look out for one another in a demanding work environment.

Like Landman, Dallas also boasts a dramatic story that thrives on betrayals and deceit. A revival of prime time soap opera of the same name that aired between 1978 and 1991, Dallas is centered around members of the Ewings, a Dallas oil tycoon family.

In the classic show, the plot revolves around the complicated relationship between two brothers, Bobby and J.R. Ewing, portrayed by Patrick Duffy and Larry Hagman. The 2012 version focuses on their sons, John Ross (Josh Henderson) and Christopher (Jesse Metcalfe), who are unable to see eye-to-eye when it comes to managing and running the family business.

The story has several connections to the old narrative and yet is still refreshing enough to keep both old and new fans equally entertained. Well-developed characters, conflicts and surprising twists make this worth the watch.

Where to watch: Dallas can be streamed on Apple TV+.

3) Blood & Oil (2015)

The ruthlessness of the oil business lays the foundation for Landman's engaging story, and it also forms a crucial part of Blood & Oil. Chace Crawford and Rebecca Rittenhouse play a young couple, Billy and Cody LeFever, who want to start afresh in Rock Springs, which is witnessing an oil boom.

But when they cross paths with Harlan Briggs, a cunning oil baron portrayed by Don Johnson, their lives become much more complicated than they imagined. The ten-episode show features a gripping plotline with a healthy dose of romance, family drama, power struggles and elements of revenge.

Similar to Landman, Blood & Oil is centered around strong characters who the audience will find appealing. It also helps that the cast has great chemistry which makes their relationships and confrontations believable.

Where to watch: Blood & Oil can be viewed on Disney+, Apple TV+ and Prime Video.

4) Frontier (2016)

Landman is interesting to watch because it captures how quickly people can abandon their ethics and morals when big money is at stake. The same greed for power and money is a running theme in Frontier, starring Jason Momoa in the lead.

Set in late 1700s Canada, the show explores the North American fur trade. Momoa portrays Declan Harp, a half-Irish, half-Cree outlaw who is determined to overturn the monopoly Hudson's Bay Company has on the trade in his native land.

The historical drama cleverly combines facts from Canadian history with imaginative storytelling. The creators deserve credit for creating well-defined characters who are flawed and yet compelling. Declan, in particular, stands out thanks to Mamoa's charismatic performance.

Where to watch: Frontier, containing three seasons and 18 episodes, is available on Netflix.

5) The Son (2017)

It takes grit and tenacity to survive in the oil business, that much has become clear in Landman. The Son, based on Philipp Meyer's novel, also features a tenacious protagonist who will do anything to keep his business empire together.

Eli McCullough, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan, is a cattle baron who is interested in getting into the oil business. However, his professional ambitions end up driving a wedge between him and his family. The Western drama has a total of two seasons and 20 episodes.

The screenplay presents two distinct timelines, one of the present and another of the past when Eli was kidnapped as a young boy. The rich storytelling combined with inspired performances and striking cinematography makes for a memorable viewing experience.

Where to watch: The Son is available for streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV+.

6) 1883 (2021)

Viewers will find similarities in the storytelling styles of 1883 and Landman because both have been created by Taylor Sheridan. Yellowstone fans in particular shouldn't miss out on this ten-episode show as it is the first prequel to the neo Western-drama show.

Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, Isabel May, and others, star in this miniseries that delves into how the Duttons came to own the land which fans have come to know as Yellowstone Ranch.

The well-written screenplay with a heavy dose of violence and mature language stays true to the Yellowstone vibe. Both McGraw and Hill are famous Western singers and viewers didn't know what to expect in terms of acting, but both captured their characters with such sincerity that it was hard not to be impressed.

Where to watch: Episodes of 1883 can be viewed on Paramount+ and Prime Video.

7) Outer Range (2022)

This show is different from the other titles on this list as it explores supernatural elements (Image via Prime Video)

There is an underlying tension in Landman that keeps the audience invested in the show. The same is the case with Outer Range, containing two seasons and 15 episodes. Josh Brolin plays Royal Abbott who is struggling to cope with the troubles that have befallen his family - the disappearance of his daughter-in-law and the attempts made by the neighboring Tillersons to take over their ranch land.

The aspect that helps Outer Range stand out is the way it blends Western drama with sci-fi elements. The dark narrative is a little complicated, which means that the viewers really need to pay attention to understand the characters' motivations and actions. It is a slow burn drama, but the riveting performances by the cast make it worth watching till the end.

Where to watch: Outer Range is available for streaming on Prime Video.

8) Territory (2024)

This Australian drama, like Landman, features plenty of clever twists to keep viewers hooked (Image via Netflix)

Even though Territory doesn't involve the oil business like Landman, it is similar to the buzz-worthy show in the way it depicts the slow degradation of morals in the race for riches.

When the world's largest cattle station, Marianne Station, is left without a clear successor, tensions are high between members of the Lawson family who have owned it for generations. They also have to fend off powerful rivals who have their eyes on the prize. This six-episode new-Western drama stars Anna Torv, Michael Dorman, Robert Taylor, and Sam Corlett.

Like Landman, Territory boasts interesting character arcs, exciting conflicts, and unpredictable plot progressions. Like a lot of Westerns, the striking scenery in Territory adds to the narrative which is complemented by memorable performances and dialogues.

Where to watch: Territory can be streamed on Netflix.

While fans of Landman wait for new episodes to be released every week, they can indulge in these intriguing shows with engaging narratives to keep them content.
