Carême season 1 episode 7 recap
Carême season 1 episode 7 opened with Antonin learning that he was born in Hotel de Gallifet, Talleyrand's house. When Lilian tried avoiding his questions, he locked her up in the kitchen's storeroom and asked her if she knew about his birth. Lilian tried to dodge the question, saying that many kids were born in Gallifet, but she revealed that Talleyrand had a medallion with a picture of Antonin's late mother.
Meanwhile, the Pope arrived at Talleyrand's place for the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Pope was unimpressed with Antonin's lavish cooking and berated Talleyrand for selling off the church's properties earlier. After returning from a visit to the church on Talleyrand's property, the Pope announced that he would not crown Napoleon because his marriage to Josephine was not religious.
Josephine seemed to have intentionally sabotaged the coronation because she wanted to be crowned the empress, and Talleyrand was against it. Josephine and Talleyrand have a heated argument when suddenly Hortense starts having labor pains.
Antonin went to the church to give an offering to God, but ran into the Pope there and decided to confess. Although Antonin did not mention Talleyrand's name, he confessed his fear of becoming an accomplice in his next crime and his doubt that Talleyrand might be his father.
The Pope's advice gave Antonin some clarity before the latter left to prepare a pain-relieving potion for Hortense on Agathe's insistence. Hortense's labor was prolonged, and at one point, it was declared that between the mother and the child, only one would survive. Fortunately, with Agathe's help, the baby was delivered, and Hortense was alright as well.
Antonin told Talleyrand that Charles was the real father of Hortense's baby and advised him to end his feud with Josephine. Talleyrand convinced the Pope to officiate Josephine and Napoleon Bonaparte's religious wedding.
Henriette returned to Paris and reunited with Antonin. Meanwhile, after discovering she was pregnant, Agathe went to see Antonin but, upon finding him with Henriette, chose to remain silent.
What to expect in Carême season 1 episode 8?
In episode 8, Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte would be crowned the emperor and empress of France, with Talleyrand organizing the lavish feast for the event. Antonin, who would be cooking for the feast, might take the opportunity to execute his revenge against Fouche and even Talleyrand.
Agathe might tell Antonin about her pregnancy, and this news might put the latter in a dilemma because he has been in love with Henriette for a long time. Napoleon and Louis could find out the truth about Hortense's baby. This would ruin Talleyrand's reputation because his son, Charles, is the real father.
The finale could tie up all the loose ends throughout the show, or leave some of those ambiguous for fans to figure out.
Carême is available to stream on Apple TV+.
