Foundation season 3 episode 3, When a Book Finds You, kicks off with a flashback where Brother Dawn visits Trantor's library three years earlier. He’s looking for Kalle's Ninth Proof of Folding, and it leads to a secret meeting with Gaal Dornick, who warns him about the emerging threat of The Mule.

Back in the present timeline, Brother Day and Song visit Commander Mavon to enlist his help to escape the palace, but their plans are ruined when Song's secret is revealed. Demerzel discovers it and instead of executing her, as the law states, she tells Day that she erased her memories and sent Song back to her hometown.

This leaves Day devastated by the loss of his consort and essentially ruins his plans of escaping the palace. In another part of the palace, Brother Dawn and Dusk are holding a conference with The Mule, hoping to strong-arm him into taking over Imperial vassalship of Kalgan.

However, The Mule rejects their offer and their authority, and secretly takes over one of their jumpgates as he attempts to expand his influence.
