After the government calls for a nationwide evacuation, families have to leave their homes and start over in other countries.

What happened in Families Like Ours season 1?
The series follows Laura, a teenage girl who is torn between her love for her boyfriend, Elias, and her deep worry about her mother, Fanny, with whom she doesn't talk much.
Initially, Laura wants to move to Paris with her dad, Jacob, and stepmom, Amalie, who have both found work and a future there. However, a scary drawing by a child makes her think that her mother is in danger, so she changes her mind at the last minute and goes to Bucharest instead. This side trip messes up her journey.
The government-arranged transportation doesn't work out for her, so she ends up in Russia and then Poland. She disappears for days during this time, which makes her family and friends very worried. In order to get back to her, Elias tries to cross into Poland without permission, but the police beat him so badly that he falls into a coma.
While Elias gets better in a rehab center, Laura starts a new life with Fanny in Bucharest. He eventually calls Laura, even though he feels bad about his condition. She plans to get back together with him by going to Finland for his sister's wedding. The couple shares a quiet moment of healing after a tense reunion, which makes it seem like they will face the future together.
Along with Laura, her uncles Nik and Henrik are going through personal trauma and moral reckoning. Henrik kills a young man by accident while protecting their home from intruders. He feels terrible about what he did and goes back to Denmark to ask for forgiveness and help the victim's father get over it.
Nik and Henrik finally make it to England, where they adopt Lucas, a smart but troubled boy who was separated from his mother during the evacuation.
At the same time, Jacob and Amalie are having a hard time in Paris. Their plans fail when Jacob's actions cause him to lose his job and apartment. They work jobs that don't pay much to support their young son, Mikkel. Even though things are hard for them, they learn to accept Paris as their new home.
Families Like Ours is a story about displacement, getting back in touch with people, and hoping to go home again, even if that home exists only in your mind.
