About the music composer
Valentin Hadjadj is a talented composer born in 1989, and he is known for his talent in combining classical writing with electronic music tools. Valentin learnt how to write music and arrange orchestral pieces at the Conservatoire de Lyon and the CNSMD de Lyon. He has written music for concerts as well as scores for movies and animation.
The movie Avril et Le Monde Truqué was his big break. It won the Cristal Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival for Best Feature Film. Valentin's work on Families Like Ours continues his tradition of making music that evokes strong emotions.
The Ghent World Soundtrack Awards in 2012 awarded Hadjadj with the Best Young European Composer title. His later work with directors like Lukas Dhont on Girl solidified his reputation in the business and earned him many awards, including the Ensor for Best Original Music in 2019.

Plot of the series
Set in a near-future Denmark, in Families Like Ours, the government orders people to leave the country because of the rising sea level. The show follows Laura Engberg, her father Jacob, and her stepmother Amalie as they deal with the changes brought on by the environmental crisis.
Jacob wants to move his family to Paris because he got a job there, but Laura's plans are thrown off when she learns that her biological mother, Fanny, is being moved to Bucharest, Romania. Laura has to choose between her love for Elias, her high school boyfriend, and her duty to be with her mother. She decides to stay with Fanny in Romania.
It was raining so hard that Laura missed her boat to Bucharest. She then takes an illegal ferry that takes her to Russia and then Poland. Her family starts to worry about her when she goes quiet for three days, and Jacob starts to look for her.
Laura and Elias eventually get back in touch, and they agree to meet up in Poland to continue their journey. On the other hand, Elias is arrested by police while crossing the border illegally and is beaten so badly that he falls into a coma.
While Laura and Fanny settle down in Bucharest, Elias faces a hard time getting better. Elias eventually gets in touch with Laura, and the two of them get back together, choosing each other despite the physical and emotional problems they face.
