Agatha All Along is a Marvel Television miniseries set to stream exclusively on Disney+ starting September 18. The series stars Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, a witch who was Wanda Maximoff's rival during WandaVision.
Agatha All Along shares its title with the villain song that aired during episode 7 of WandaVision, where Agatha was revealed to be a villain. WandaVision ended with Wanda wiping Agatha's memories of her true identity and trapping her in the false persona she'd adopted to usurp Wanda's magic.
In Agatha All Along, Agatha remains trapped within Wanda's curse, imagining herself as a homicide detective in a gritty crime drama, until she encounters another witch who knows the real her and reminds her of her true identity.
Agatha then embarks on a journey to the Witches' Road to face the trials there and regain her powers.
Who is Agatha Harkness from Agatha All Along?
Agatha Harkness is a Marvel Comics character introduced during Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's original run of Fantastic Four, in issue #94. In the comics, she was initially an elderly woman who served as the governess of Frankin Richards, the son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm.
She was also revealed to be a long-living witch who was around for the Salem Witch Trials and acted as a mentor to Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Agatha first appears in the WandaVision series, where Wanda has unknowingly created a false idyllic reality in the suburbia of Westview, New Jersey. Unlike her comic counterpart, Agatha is a villainous witch who wants to steal Wanda's powers.
To achieve this, she infiltrates Wanda's life under the fake identity of Agnes, pretending to be a nosy neighbor and trying to ingratiate herself into Wanda and Vision's lives.
Episode 7 of WandaVision reveals that her disguise as Agnes was a cover all along, and she plans to go to any lengths necessary to usurp the Scarlet Witch's powers for herself.
Agatha's scheming backfires when Wanda and Vision realize the true nature of Wanda's illusory world. While Wanda frees everyone else from the false identities she'd unknowingly trapped them in, she retaliates against Agatha by robbing her of her powers and memories, trapping her in the false persona of Agnes.
Agatha All Along reveals that Agnes has remained trapped within various fictional personas since then. The show starts with Agnes as a homicide detective investigating a murder in the woods. She then meets a mysterious teenager who helps her remember her true identity as a witch, and the "murder victim" is revealed to be Wanda herself, who cursed her to begin with.
Having recovered her memories and true personality, Agatha proceeds to form a witchcraft coven of her own, intending to embark on the legendary Witches' Road and face the trials there. Will Agatha succeed in her ambitions and regain her lost powers?
