The Cartoon Network website has been unexpectedly shut down by its parent studio Warner Bros Discovery. This move has been put into place after the announcement of the Warner Bros quarterly budget report, where it was revealed that they incurred a loss in revenue.
With the website discontinued permanently, the animated cartoon shows will no longer be freely available on the platform. Instead, audiences will have to stream the shows on the OTT site Max, which requires a subscription to create an account.
Unfortunately, this phenomenon seems common across many television companies that have been financially hit. With the world moving to online streaming instead of cable TV, companies like Paramount Global and Warner Bros Discovery have had to shut down a few of their services and consequently lay off many employees.
Where to watch the fan-favorites that used to be on the Cartoon Network website?
With the shutdown of the Cartoon Network website, many of the shows that kids loved watching on the site will not be readily available anymore. The website now has an error page that informs users to switch to the streaming platform Max to find their favourite cartoons.
Max is an OTT platform under HBO and contains many shows and films under Discovery. It requires users to create an account after a paid subscription to the service, to start watching content. Apart from this, some cartoon clips might also be available on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook, posted by either official sources or independent accounts.
This is in contrast to the website, which used to have a wide range of free clips from iconic cartoons like Craig of the Creek, The Amazing World of Gumball, Steven Universe and Clarence. The website also had free video games based on many of the cartoons, all of which have now been discontinued.

Why did the Cartoon Network website shut down?
Warner Bros Discovery announced the shutdown of the website after a budget evaluation. They reported a 9.1 billion USD write-down, which became the reason for shutting down the website. This has been the case for many cable TV networks, who have to cut down a channel or service after seeing a drop in viewership or program ratings.
The news about the website shutdown has come briefly after the #RIPCartoonNetwork trend. It was a social media movement to bring forward the plight of animators and workers in the industry. Many people even got worried that the network itself was halting after this.
However, only the website has been shut down for now and the channel continues to run. Cartoon Network began operating in 1992 with original cartoon programming. It became a fan favorite over the years, up until the recent shift to OTT and streaming.
Other Warner Bros Discovery cable networks are also currently operating without interruption. They can be viewed on TV or with a subscription to online services that provide cable connections as well, including Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
