Hulu's Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, which was adapted from a podcast of the same name, delved into the long period of deceit that Jenifer Faison faced from her husband, Spencer Herron, a convicted felon charged with five counts of s*xual assault. The streaming platform is now on its way to a sequel, Betrayal: A Father's Secret, which premieres on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
The podcast-based true crime documentary did not garner a good reception from critics when it premiered in 2023, instead, it became a huge hit among the fans, who were more than willing to follow the extremely relatable story, told through the perspective of Jenifer Faison, who in 2018 discovered that her perfect husband was actually a s*xual predator.
Faison, who worked as a television producer, and still does now, was shocked at this revelation, and ultimately came out with her story in Betrayal. This may also be the pattern that Betrayal: A Father's Secret follows, as it is also based on a podcast.
Thankfully, after the terrible events that went down with her husband, Faison was able to piece her life back together and divorced her husband just a year after his arrest. Since then, she has continued to work in the television industry and has lived a life free from the constant betrayal she witnessed with Spencer Herron.
Spencer Herron and Jenifer Faison's love story seemed to be a fairytale until it wasn't
The severity of the impact on Jenifer Fiason would be understandable if one looked at the rich history the duo shared together. Herron and Faison originally met in college, where they had a brief flame between them. But after college, they went their separate ways, and Herron even got married to a different woman.
As Faison focused on her career in television and soared in her field, she reconnected with Herron online decades later. By then, Herron, who was a father of two, had divorced his wife and this led to a long-lost reunion between the couple.
Almost as if straight out of the pages of a fairy tale, the long-lost lovers reconnected and eventually tied the knot. Faison moved to Herron's native Georgia, where the couple even opened a bar together.
Things were seemingly great, except that Spencer Herron was constantly engaging in extra-marital affairs behind his wife's back, something that Jenifer Faison refused to believe till her husband was apprehended in 2018.
According to reports, Spencer Herron, who was a teacher at Kell High School, used his position and authority to groom many young female students and later assaulted them. This went on for a significant amount of time before the predator was finally caged.
After his arrest, Herron pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault of a student in 2019. Due to Georgia's s*xual assault statute, this case was taken very seriously and the teacher was sentenced to five years in prison and 15 years of probation.
As per the reports, Herron was released on July 28, 2022. Since then, not much is known about the ex-school teacher.
Jenifer Faison has rebuilt her life since then
As for Jenifer Faison, she managed to rebuild her life after the terrible secret she found out about her husband. She divorced her husband in 2019 and has since continued to work as a television producer, achieving great success in the field.
She currently resides in Acworth, Georgia, and has worked in Build it Forward, which premiered in 2022.
