TJ Phillips passed away on June 8, 2025, at the age of 66. As per the Daily Mail, Phillips became recognized among the general public while appearing alongside Jessica Chandler in the 92.5 Kickin’ Country morning show, TJ & Jessica in the Morning.
The radio station first disclosed the news through its official Facebook handle a day after TJ’s demise. The post featured a statement from the President of Charleston Media Solutions, Paul O’Malley, which reads:
“He was an immensely talented broadcaster, but also a veteran who proudly served his country, a man who constantly tried to make the lives of others better, and a friend who will be greatly missed.”
Although Phillips’ cause of death is yet to be revealed, the social media post described him as an animal lover, music fan, photographer, and many others. In addition, the post recalled TJ’s contributions and his achievements, including being named the Best Radio Personality by publications such as Mount Pleasant Magazine.
“TJ Phillips was a friend to our community, supporting countless charities like the Charleston Animal Society and the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. His greatest personal achievements were the thousands of people he connected with over his many years on the radio,” the post continued.
TJ also worked for various other radio stations before joining 92.5 Kickin’ Country. Meanwhile, the comments section of the aforementioned Facebook post was flooded with tributes, where people addressed that they listened to Phillips for many years, alongside others writing that the mornings would not be the same anymore, considering TJ won’t be on air.

The Rogersville, Tennessee, native had a successful journey in the world of radio over the years. TJ’s Facebook profile stated that he was living in Charleston, South Carolina, before his death.
Although detailed information on TJ Phillips’ early life remains unknown for now, he completed his higher studies at Vanderbilt University. He was 15 years old when he started his career as a radio host. TJ’s Facebook account says that before he became a part of the radio, Phillips served in the US Army at the Munich-based AFN, also called the American Forces Network.
In 1990, TJ came to 103.5 WEZL, where he hosted the morning show until December 2016. He then joined the 92.5 Kickin’ Country in a similar position.
The Daily Mail stated that TJ’s show aired between 5 am and 10 am on weekdays, and he also appeared at noon on Sundays. Following his support for the local musicians, TJ Phillips was also inducted into the Lowcountry Music Hall of Fame around nine years ago.
TJ also appeared for an interview with the Mount Pleasant magazine in 2017, where he shared his experience working with co-host Jessica Chandler. TJ said during the conversation that Jessica had more energy than him despite being half his age and added:
“She’s constantly communicating with Facebook and our website listeners while we’re on the air – it’s an energy I haven’t been around in a long time, and the rest of the staff feeds into it.”
TJ Phillips was also active on Instagram, where he frequently shared photos from different occasions, including glimpses of some animals and birds.
