The podcast host of Call Her Daddy and entrepreneur Alex Cooper publicly responded to a viral TikTok video that revealed speculation about her relationship with film producer Matt Kaplan, specifically concerning his ex-wife, actress Claire Holt.
A TikTok video and an Instagram post by the account Deux Moi sparked the rumor that Cooper faced discomfort because her assistant shared the same name as Kaplan's former partner. Cooper first dismissed the gossip, but she decided to speak publicly to prevent further distress for her assistant.
Alex Cooper responded to the same by saying that "that's not true" during her Boyfriend Material podcast interview on April 22, 2025. She further maintained concern regarding her assistant, who faced distress from being affected by such rumors.
"The craziest rumor I’ve heard about myself recently is that I made an assistant change her name because she had the same name as one of [my husband] Matt’s exes,” Cooper said.
Notably, Alex Cooper married Matt Kaplan on April 6, 2024, in an intimate beachside ceremony in Riviera Maya, Mexico. According to the circulating rumor, Cooper forced this employee to use an alternative name when working in the office.
“When those types of things happen, I feel like I’m just scrolling,” Cooper continued during Tuesday’s podcast episode. “You see it, you keep scrolling. Another day, another rumor.”
According to Alex Cooper, the company employee is “a very private person” and “was so upset” when the rumor circulated.
“I didn’t even like bat an eyelash, I’m like ‘Obviously that’s not true, then people are making videos being, like, ‘Alex Cooper had this girl change her name.’ … It’s just crazy.”
