Reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, Caitlin Clark will make her LPGA debut on Wednesday. Currently in her offseason after a stellar debut season in the women's basketball league, Clark will take part in her first pro-am, playing nine holes with World No. 1 Nelly Korda and another nine-hole game with host Annika Sorenstam.
Clark's newfound interest in golf has made waves. Some are even wondering if she has left the WNBA. However, Clark hasn't done that. The 22-year-old is continuing her pro basketball career, and her golfing adventure is nothing but an offseason hobby for now.
Clark has had a grueling few months on the court, beginning in November 2023 when her final NCAA season with the Iowa Hawkeyes commenced. It continued until September, when the Indiana Fever exited the playoffs in the first round against the Connecticut Sun.
Barring some time off between the end of the college season and her WNBA debut and the league's All-Star and Olympic break, Caitlin Clark played a ton of basketball. She's seemingly enjoying her break from her full-time job, attending NBA and NCAA games and making her pro-am golf debut.
Caitlin Clark hinted at her golfing expedition following Fever's playoff exit
Caitlin Clark hinted about her ambitions of turning a pro golfer right after the Fever exited the playoffs in September, following their 2-0 series loss to the Sun.
"Maybe play some golf," Clark said (h/t Indiana Fever reporter Chloe Peterson on X). "That's what I'm gonna do until it gets cold in Indiana ... I'll become a professional golfer."
Clark's love for golf is no secret. She drew a large audience at the John Deere Classic pro-am in 2023, impressing fans with her swing.
"I’m a big fan of golf. I love to play it and be around it," Clark said (via PGA Tour.com). "I think it’s just really fun. Every Sunday, I usually have the TV on and am watching (the PGA TOUR).
“More than anything else, this was about enjoying the experience,” she added. “It’s just cool getting to interact with the young kids who were here today. I was trying to make as much time as I could to sign an autograph, or give them a ball or a high five because that goes a long way.”
Caitlin Clark's impending LPGA debut is already generating a lot of attention. "Golf Channel" intends to expand its coverage of Wednesday's event after Clark's debut picked up buzz among her fans.
