A'ja Wilson became the WNBA's top scorer after her 27-point performance against the Indiana Fever earlier this week, surpassing Jewell Loyd's record. With her place in WNBA scoring history already cemented, Wilson entered Friday’s game against the Fever aiming to extend her record and bolster the Las Vegas Aces' standings.

It was the second meeting in three days between A'ja Wilson’s Aces and Caitlin Clark’s Fever. Wilson came off a historic game with 27 points and 12 rebounds, securing her spot atop the WNBA single-season scoring charts.

Although A'ja Wilson had a quieter scoring night, her presence inside, with 15 points and 17 rebounds, helped the Aces secure their 15th straight win over the Fever and their 24th victory of the season. The Fever, meanwhile, endured their first two-game losing streak since the 2024 Paris Olympics break, with the Aces being the only team they failed to beat this season.

By halftime, Wilson had 10 points and eight rebounds, leading with a game-high plus-minus of +15, shooting 5-for-9 from the field to give the Aces a 43-35 lead. Kelsey Mitchell, however, led all scorers in the first half with 19 points.

Wilson had a quiet third quarter, missing her two field-goal attempts but contributing with four rebounds and an assist to Chelsea Gray for a triple.

As the Fever closed in and tied the game at 60 in the fourth quarter, the Aces responded with a 7-2 run, highlighted by a deuce from Wilson to regain the lead.

With the Aces ahead 69-66, Wilson got fouled and split her free throws on her first trip to the line. Caitlin Clark trimmed the lead to two with a layup, but Kelsey Plum's clutch triple extended the Aces' lead to five with 56 seconds remaining.

Damiris Dantas made a shot to bring the Fever closer, but the Aces held on for the win.

A’ja Wilson credits teammates after breaking scoring record

Despite her record-breaking performance on Wednesday, Wilson credited her teammates for her scoring success (via The Guardian):

"I don’t want to sound cliché, but I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. I’m so grateful to play with such selfless women," Wilson said.
"My teammates are the heartbeat. They keep me going. I don’t get any points without them passing me the basketball," she added.

The Aces have three games left this season: against the playoff-bound Connecticut Sun, Seattle Storm and the already-eliminated Dallas Wings.

A'ja Wilson, a two-time MVP, is coming off a season where she won Defensive Player of the Year and is the favorite to win the award again. She also helped lead the Aces to back-to-back championships, earning Finals MVP in the process.
