Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever registered a confidence-boosting win over the Commissioner's Cup champion Minnesota Lynx on Sunday. In front of a sold-out crowd at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Clark led the Fever to an impressive 81-74 victory.
It was a rough game for Caitlin Clark, who struggled to shoot the ball and once again turned the ball over on numerous occasions. The Fever rookie scored 17 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the field, including an abysmal 2-of-11 from the 3-point range.
The former Iowa superstar dished out six assists and generated offense for her team. Clark once again struggled to keep the turnovers down as she was heavily pressured by the Minnesota Lynx's defenders.
The 22-year-old registered six turnovers and secured an unwanted record. Caitlin Clark has 139 turnovers in the 2024 WNBA season so far, which is the most by a player in a single regular season.
Hoops fans were divided after Caitlin Clark broke the record for most turnovers. A section of fans came to the Rookie of the Year candidate's defense.
One of the fans even compared Caitlin Clark to the late great baseball player Babe Ruth.
"Babe Ruth led in strikeouts as well."
A couple of X users blamed Caitlin Clark's teammates for the rookie's high rate of turnovers.
"Have you seen the “hands” on her teammates? Their skill set is having trouble keeping up with hers," commented a fan.
"Once her team mates learn to play at her speed and catch those dimes the turnovers will be cut in half. She has them playing winning basketball," wrote another fan.
Caitlin Clark's turnovers are bound to exceed further as there are 15 more games remaining in the season for the Indiana Fever.
A section of fans reacted harshly to Clark's turnover issue and criticized the Fever rookie for her lack of discipline while handling the basketball.
"I mean, she is going to SMASH this record and put it out of reach. All-time goat at turnovers for Caitlin Clark at #WNBA level," a fan said.
"Well, I guess she has some learning to do," commented another fan.
"Before anyone blames her teammates. She had 189 TOs her last year at Iowa. She's had the problem her whole career. It's not the team," a fan wrote.

Caitlin Clark has 139 turnovers after playing 25 games for the Indiana Fever. The rookie is averaging 5.6 turnovers per game and boasts an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.40.
The 22-year-old averages almost two more turnovers than second-placed Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun. Thomas is averaging 3.7 turnovers per game.
The former Iowa star is also the focal point of the Fever's offense and creates a ton of scoring chances for her teammates. Clark leads the league in assists and averages 7.8 dimes per game. Overall, Caitlin Clark has registered 194 assists in her rookie season so far.
