Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson faced off for the third time ever on Wednesday night as the WNBA season reaches its final stretch. The game was held at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the first time this season. The first two matchups were in Las Vegas and the Aces won both times in convincing fashion.
Wednesday's game had the same result with Las Vegas getting the 86-75 win over the Indiana Fever. Clark is now 0-3 against Wilson and the Aces although she has another chance to get their first win against the back-to-back defending champions on Friday night.
Clark had 16 points, three rebounds and six assists, struggling from the field at just 27.3% and went 1-for-10 from beyond the arc. Wilson also missed a lot of shots (11-for-28 FG) but still had 27 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks. She took over the game late as she remained undefeated against Clark.
In their first matchup on May 25 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Aces blew out the Indiana Fever 99-80. The back-to-back defending WNBA champions showed why they were one of the favorites to win their third consecutive title this year. They showed no mercy against a young team still trying to develop their chemistry together.
Wilson finished that game with 29 points, 15 rebounds and two assists, shooting 66.7% from the field. Clark, on the other hand, put up just eight points, five rebounds and seven assists. She shot 2-for-8 from the floor, including 2-for-5 from threes and had six turnovers.
The second matchup between Clark and Wilson happened on July 2 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse again. The Aces were ruthless again versus the Fever in a one-sided 88-69 win.
Wilson played like an MVP with 28 points, nine rebounds, two steals and five blocks. She went 13-for-22 from the field as she anchored the Aces' defense to limit the Fever to less than 70 points.
Meanwhile, Clark had her third career double-double with 13 points and 11 assists. She also had six rebounds but turned the ball over six times. She shot 4-for-12 from the floor, including 1-for-7 from beyond the arc. It was another tough game for the rookie at the time but it's not like that anymore. Clark and the Fever have been playing much better since the Olympic break.
Caitlin Clark vs A'ja Wilson to happen again on Friday
The fourth matchup between Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson will happen on Friday at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse once again. It is the final game between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces this season. Clark and the Fever have another crack at the reigning WNBA champions but they need to play their best to beat them.
Both teams would want to finish the season strong and have the momentum needed to succeed in the playoffs. The postseason is scheduled to start on Sept. 22 and there's a small chance for an Aces-Fever series if the stars align perfectly.
