WNBA star Dijonai Carrington and her girlfriend, Nalyssa Smith, shared their bonding time in bed with their pet dogs on Thursday. The two have been miles away from each other since Smith was playing in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WBCA), making the morning cuddle-up more special between the couple.
Smith shared the moment in her Instagram story, which featured some of their dogs and an awakened Carrington. The two also played with their dogs, showing their cozy morning.
“GM,’ Smith wrote as an acronym for Good Morning.
Smith has been playing for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the WBCA. The six-foot-four forward averaged 10.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks for the Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA season, before signing to a Chinese team after bouncing in the first round of the playoffs.
Smith was a key cog in the Indiana Fever’s historic playoff run led by Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark. The Fever had a strong second half of the season and steered the franchise to its first playoff appearance in over eight years.
On the other hand, Carrington has been training in the U.S. for the upcoming Unrivaled Basketball League on January 17, 2025. Carrington will play for a team called the Mist BC and will be coached by former LA Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy.
Playing for the Connecticut Sun in the last WNBA season, Carrington averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game as she played mostly a defensive role for the playoff team. She was named the Most Improved Player for the season for her consistent performances during the 40-game regular season.
Carrington played against Smith’s Fever in the playoffs, eliminating them in the first round. The Sun then lost against the Minnesota Lynx, which advanced to the 2024 WNBA finals.
NaLyssa Smith reacts to DiJonai Carrington’s defense during the WNBA season
NaLyssa Smith expressed how impressed she was with DiJonai Carrington’s defense during the 2024 WNBA season. Smith shared a highlight reel of Carrington’s defensive play posted by the official WNBA account on Instagram, then commented on how well she guarded opposing teams on the perimeter.
"Dawg she is insane but me personally I could nevaa take that level of disrespect," Smith wrote.
While the next WNBA season remains far in the future, the two have all the time in the world to bond and strengthen their relationship while they are busy with their basketball careers.
