Murray, who spent two seasons with McCaffery in Iowa, was drafted by the Kings as the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. The forward quickly settled down in Sacramento, playing 80 games while averaging 12.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. His performances helped the Kings reach their first playoff series for the first time in 16 years, while he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Murray further impressed in his sophomore season as the former Hawkeye star started 77 games and recorded a career high 15.2 points per game. Despite his scoring average dropping last season, Murray continued to have a bigger role in the team, averaging 34.3 minutes per game.

The forward is also one of the best all-around performers in the league as he is one of three players to record 500 3-pointers, 150 blocks, and 150 steals over the last three seasons. According to reports, Murray is the sixth player to ink a rookie extension this year with his five-year $140 million deal set to run until the 2030-31 season.
