In her first year with the franchise, Caitlin Clark helped the Indiana Fever reach the postseason for the first time in eight years. As the regular season comes to a close, the rookie phenom was asked about their looming playoff matchup.
With a few games to go, the Fever are all but locked into the No. 6 seed. That said, things could still move around at the top of the standings. They're currently on track to play the Connecticut Sun in round one, but could end up facing off against the Minnesota Lynx or the Las Vegas Aces.
As the Fever prepares for its regular-season finale, Caitlin Clark was asked about preparation for the playoffs. Even though their opponent could change, it won't impact the work being put in right now, as per Clark.
"Wherever we go we go, prep the same exact way you would for anybody else," Clark said. "Just continuing to prep the way we have, whoever we get, we get, and you're happy about it."
Before the real playoff prep begins, Clark and the Fever still have one last game on the schedule. On Thursday night, they'll hit the road to take on the Washington Mystics. This matchup gives the first-year guard one last chance to add to her already historic statistical season.
Caitlin Clark could match another WNBA record in Fever's regular-season finale
Over the course of this season, Caitlin Clark has broken multiple league and franchise records. In their final matchup on Thursday, she could come close to adding another accolade to her already long list.
Currently, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu holds the WNBA record for most threes made in a season, at 128. Heading into their season finale, Clark isn't far behind, at 120.
It will take a strong outing from beyond the arc, but Caitlin Clark could come close to at least matching Ionescu's record. That said, it needs to be mentioned that she is yet to hit eight threes in a game.
Clark's season-high is seven 3-pointers, which came against the Washington Mystics back in June. The Fever guard had six made threes over the weekend in her career-high outburst vs the Dallas Wings.
Even if Clark doesn't match Ionescu's mark, she still has a plethora of records to her name. She holds the single-season assist record, rookie scoring record and single-game assist record. Clark is also the only rookie in league history to record a triple-double.
Given her earlier success against the Mystics, tying this record isn't out of the realm of possibility for Clark. If she's able to achieve this, it will add even more lustre to one of the best rookie campaigns the WNBA has ever seen.
