Angel Reese and Sky's new coach, Tyler Marsh, has caught plenty of flak from the star sophomore's fanbase after a torrid start to the 2025 WNBA season. Seven games in, Reese's production has dropped from her rookie year. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds on 39.1% shooting in 2024. In 2025, she's managed a measly 9.5 ppg and 12.3 rpg, shooting 30.9%.
Reese's shot attempts have also been lower at 9.7 per game as Marsh has looked to use her more on the perimeter to accommodate Kamilla Cardoso in the paint. Marsh's approach has been ideal to resolve the Sky's spacing issues with Cardoso and Reese, but it hasn't gone down well with several fans.
Candace Parker has indirectly given them a reality check with her latest take on Jemele Hill's podcast, "Spolitics," in the latest episode released on Saturday. While discussing Reese on a "basketball level," Parker endorsed Marsh as the "correct coach" for the former LSU player.
"She [Reese] has the correct coach for her," Parker said. "Tyler Marsh is one of the best coaches I have ever played for. He was an assistant coach in Vegas. He's the most knowledgeable person, he's a great skill developer, he almost single-handedly turned Jackie Young's shot into what it is ... She's [Reese] in a great situation."
Parker played with the Aces when Marsh was an assistant under Becky Hammon. Under his coaching, Jackie Young, a sub-30.0 % 3-point shooter, to a 40.0%-plus 3-point shooter.
These factors gave a chance to WNBA fans to silence Marsh's critics and slam Reese. Here's how they reacted to Parker's comments:
Tyler Marsh backs Angel Reese after four-point outing in loss to Caitlin Clark-less Fever
Amid incessant criticism from Angel Reese's fanbase, Tyler Marsh backed the second-year forward after she recorded a four-point night in a mammoth loss to the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever on Saturday. Reese shot 2 of 7 and had three turnovers with just two assists. Chicago lost the contest 79-52, missing a golden opportunity to level the season series with its conference rival.
Despite Reese's struggles, Marsh took ownership, saying:
"I don’t think Angel struggled tonight, I think we struggled as a team…It’s not about Angel being better for us, it’s us being better for Angel."
The Sky looked listless across the board as not one player crossed the 10-point mark. With just two wins this year, both against the league-worst Dallas Wings, there are significant questions about Reese and Chicago's ceiling for the second consecutive year.
