It appears that the Indiana Fever's injury plague will finally come to an end, as Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham are expected to be available for the team's next matchup. After Thursday's practice, Fever's coach Stephanie White spoke with Indy Star Sports' Chloe Peterson.

On Friday, Peterson shared a segment from her interview, where White gave fans an update on Clark's status.

"Its'e been good, I think she is working her way back," White said. "I felt like today was better than yesterday in terms of just movement and balance and feeling... As long as we don't have any regressions, she is ready to roll."

Later, she delved into the update for Cunningham, who has been sidelined with an ankle injury. White informed the fans that she was also making steady progress in her recovery.

"I think she's gonna be ready to roll as well," White added. "Sophie looked really good, her timing was good, getting back into game rhythm and timing is the most important thing. Being able to change directions, I thought she looked great."

The Indiana coach then discussed DeWanna Bonner's absence, stating the veteran will be unavailable on Saturday against the NY Liberty due to personal issues.

Caitlin Clark suffered a left quadriceps strain in the Fever's previous outing against the Liberty (May 24). That game ended in a 90-88 loss for Indiana, and if Clark is available for the Saturday game, she will have a chance to take her revenge.

Caitlin Clark's return could spell trouble for her teammates

Caitlin Clark's return could spell a selection conundrum for the team, as when the Fever superstar was sidelined, the Fever hit the minimum number of active players required to play a WNBA game.

Sydney Colson followed Caitlin Clark in the injury list, and the Fever had to sign Aari McDonald as a backup guard through an emergency hardship contract. Colson returned to the court two games after McDonald signed on June 1. According to WNBA rules, the Fever needed to waive McDonald when Clark or Cunningham was ready to come back.

On Friday, Indiana announced that the team waived McDonald. The former Sparks star produced impressive results in her short stay at the franchise: 11 points, three assists, two steals and 1.3 rebounds in three games. She turned around Fever's two-game loss streak and led them to win two consecutive games from May 28 to Jun. 7.

Now the Fever are left with a choice to reacquire McDonald with another contract, but to do so, they need to cut a player from their active roster to make room and cap space to offer the former Sparks player another contract.
