Caitlin Clark avoided her seventh technical foul in the Indiana Fever's 110-109 Sunday win against the Dallas Wings on Sunday. Many fans speculated that Dallas was trying to get her to commit another technical foul before the season ended. However, the rookie guard kept her cool and will end the season with her team against the Washington Mystics.
Fans noticed that the Wings didn't go easy on Clark with the way they defended her. They initiated a physical game on Clark all game. During one sequence, the physicality led to the rookie getting called for an offensive foul.
After escaping without her seventh technical foul, Clark seemed relieved. After the game, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star talked about avoiding another tech.
"Well, I didn’t think they were gonna give me a technical at any point tonight," Clark said. "I would’ve been really sad for people in Washington D.C. I didn't want to do that. I tried my best. But my teammates really did a good job in that. They think I'm funny. They think it's funny.
"And then Aliyah (Boston) is the one that ends up with a technical. That's the best part about it all. She's the one babysitting me, and somehow she ends up with a technical. And she didn't really do anything. She was just standing there. That's what's funny to me."
Clark thinks she performed better against the Wings as she didn't get into trouble with the referees.
"Now, it's basically over," Clark said. "I don't have to worry about that anymore, but I don't want to be getting technicals at all. And my mom doesn't want that for me, either. I don't want to pay any more fines. I'm done with that."
Fans in D.C. will see Clark play her final game of the season on Thursday before the WNBA playoffs start.
