The Indiana Fever faced off against defending champions Las Vegas Aces in a crucial WNBA matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Wednesday. Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell, who has been in excellent offensive form since the season resumed after the 2024 Paris Olympics break, scored the first basket of the game.
Mitchell brought speed and energy to the game but struggled with efficiency against Las Vegas' strong defense. Despite that, the two-time All-Star led the Fever in scoring at halftime.
She tallied 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 1-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also contributed one assist, one steal and one turnover while converting both of her free throws.

Fans on Kelsey Mitchell's performance
Basketball fans reacted to Mitchell's standout performance in a game where Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston faced significant struggles:
"Easily our best player tonight. She's the only one that found a rhythm," a fan commented.
Another fan praised Mitchell's lion-hearted effort while also commenting on Clark's disappointing performance:
"Good game for KM. Caitlin Clark shot poorly, but as long as she plays well in the playoff, that is all that matters. We are already in the playoff, so use these games as a learning experience."
"Always solid. My advice weather you want it or not. Play your five starters and Weezy & Fagbenle . That’s it. If bigs get in foul trouble add Dantes! That’s it. It’s time to peak not experiment," wrote one fan.
Following their latest defeat, the Indiana Fever dropped to a 19-18 record but remained in sixth place in the league standings.
