NaLyssa Smith, Caitlin Clark's teammate on the Indiana Fever, has caused quite a stir after her recent activity on X. Smith responded to a video of Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson addressing her teammates in the locker room after she became the first player in league history to score 1,000 points in a season.
Smith reposted the clip with a one-word response and some emojis.
Fans who saw Smith's response speculated that she wanted to move to Las Vegas.
"NaLyssa Smith, you're a Las Vegas Aces," one fan said.
"When you get to Vegas it’s going to be legendary," another fan said.
"You like Vegas???" One fan asked.
However, not all fans saw this as a sign that NaLyssa Smith wanted to leave the Fever. They took the opportunity to shut down those who talked about her switching teams.
"Ignore the hate hon. There are so many fans who love you!" a fan tweeted.
"She could have easily been moved by the emotion but here y’all go talking bout 'Leave! Join them!'" another person said.
"Leave her tf alone u weird ass fans," one person said.
NaLyssa Smith's numbers have gone down as Caitlin Clark has been the focal point of the Fever offense. During her rookie season in 2022, she averaged 13.5 points per game and in 2023 she upped that number to 15.5.
This season, her scoring has dropped to 10.4 points per game. Her lack of touches has also been reflected in her attempts as she is averaging only 8.7 attempts per game this season compared to 11.9 in her rookie campaign and 12.7 last year.
NaLyssa Smith deletes post after Caitlin Clark's career-high
The Indiana Fever beat the Dallas Wings 110-109 in a tense matchup on Sunday.
Caitlin Clark had a huge game as she scored a career-high 35 points. However, it wasn't just Clark who got buckets. Kelsey Mitchell added 30 while Aliyah Boston had 15.
NaLyssa Smith also had a productive performance and finished with eight points (4-for-7 shooting clip) in just 19 minutes of playing time. After the game, Smith's girlfriend, Connecticut Sun player DiJonai Carrington, tweeted a message that many considered as throwing shade at the Fever.
Smith then replied and shared Carrington's post but deleted it.
NaLyssa Smith remains a key member of the Fever, as she is averaging close to 25 minutes per game this season. She has also been a starter in 36 of the 39 games that the team has played.
However, her production has gone down which can be attributed to Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark all producing at an All-Star level.
