Saturday’s Indiana Fever-New York Liberty matchup marked Caitlin Clark’s return to the court for the first time since May 23. A crowd of over 17,000 made their way to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Among those in attendance were a few passionate fans who made an incredible journey from Hong Kong, traveling 7,906 miles over 22 hours just to see Clark in action.
During the postgame press conference, Clark was informed about the group’s trip. Clearly touched by the love, the Fever guard expressed appreciation and also pondered over the idea of visiting Hong Kong in the future.
“No way! Oh my gosh. I wish I could have met them. If you know them, tell them thank you for coming. That's incredible,” Clark said.
“Yeah, maybe we'll head to Hong Kong after the season. I mean, I certainly hope to go to Hong Kong one day. That's incredible to see the type of reach that we can have and how much people love basketball across the globe.”
Clark was sidelined for the past three weeks due to a left quad injury. However, she picked up right where she left off, entertaining all those in attendance.
The sharpshooter stuffed the stat sheet with 32 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and three combined steals and blocks, powering the Fever to a 102-88 victory over the New York Liberty, handing the defending champions their first loss of the 2025 season.
Caitlin Clark gets warm reception from LeBron James and Robert Griffin III
Caitlin Clark’s return to the court left not just Indiana fans but the sporting community thrilled. Her near triple-double performance made waves on social media, drawing attention from some of the biggest personalities.
LeBron James was among the first to react, unable to contain his enthusiasm, as he posted on X.
“The CC EFFECT!! WELCOME BACK! You were missed!”
Former NFL star Robert Griffin III also chimed in, showering Clark with lofty praise for her impressive showing against the league’s only undefeated team:
"Caitlin Clark just went CRAZY on the best team in the WNBA. First game back, 7 three’s, 32 points, 9 assists, 8 rebs and a win over the top ranked New York Liberty to give them their first loss of the season. There is NO DOUBT who the most exciting player in the WNBA is."
During Caitlin Clark’s absence, the Indiana Fever struggled with a 2-3 record. Despite the losing record, they fared well in the Commissioner’s Cup, winning two of three games without her.
With Clark back in the lineup, Stephanie White’s squad has improved to 3-1 in Commissioner’s Cup play, emerging as one of the top contenders to claim the in-season tournament title.
