Caitlin Clark's participation in an upcoming Pro-Am golf tournament is getting special coverage after fans asked where they could watch it. It all started last month when one of Clark's fan accounts inquired about the player's participation in Annika Sorenstam's tournament and a potential broadcast for it.
This fan received a negative response that shut the door to those wanting to see the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year in action on the course. A month and a day later, the same fan shared a tweet that explained the special coverage this event and Clark would have, starting on Wednesday.
Front Office Sports reporter David Rumsey broke down what the organizers have planned for this competition.
"Next week's LPGA event is expanding its Pro-Am coverage around Caitlin Clark's participation. Golf Channel's "Golf Today" will begin 90 min early on Wed. & include live look-ins. Clark will play w/ Nelly Korda & have her warm-up + a mid-round interview live-streamed," he tweeted Friday.
This sparked plenty of reactions from fans, who celebrated the Golf Channel bringing Caitlin Clark supported what they wanted to see.
"Bad enough the women in the WNBA hate her. Now, the LPGA women will hate her. In a related note, ESPN will cover Angel Reese's participation in the Nebraska Corn Hole Invitational. She'll be teamed up with Antonio Brown as an at-large entry," a fan said.
"Said a while back that they would put it on the golf channel with Caitlin participating so not surprised and definitely the right thing to do with all of the fans Caitlin has that want to see her play," one fan said.
"Caitlin is making the Golf Channel great again," another fan said.
Others said they would watch golf for the first time only because of Clark.
"Don't know s**t about golf nor like the sport but I will be there cheering for the legendary birdy," one fan wrote.
Caitlin Clark opens up on opportunity to play with remarkable golf players
This tournament will tee off on Wednesday at 7 a.m. ET. She will team up with Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam, first playing nine holes with Korda and then nine with Sorenstam. In addition, Clark will attend the Women's Leadership Summit on Tuesday, which will be live-streamed on NBC.
Talking about this opportunity, Caitlin Clark didn't mince words while sharing her excitement about sharing the course with LPGA Tour legends.
"I love golf so the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam’s name on it is so exciting," she said in her official statement.
Clark jokingly said she'd like to focus on her golf game during the WNBA offseason, and she's about to take the first test.
