LA sports continues to dazzle with the arrival of WNBA rookie Cameron Brink and MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani. Brink was drafted by the Sparks No. 2 in this year’s draft, while the two-time AL MVP was signed by the Dodgers in free agency before the baseball season started. The two are expected to be a big part of the Hollywood sports scene for years to come.

On Monday, Brink was at the Dodger Stadium to watch Ohtani and his teammates host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former Stanford superstar and fellow Sparks rookie Rickea Jackson were also tasked to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the said Dodgers-Diamondbacks showdown. Before the basketball player went out to do her job, she had this moment with Ohtani:

Perhaps rubbing elbows with Shohei Ohtani and the NL West-leading LA Dodgers will jump-start Cameron Brink’s LA Sparks season.

Brink, Jackson and their teammates are still winless to start the 2024 WNBA season. The Sparks opened their campaign with a 92-81 loss to the Atlanta Dream before bowing down 89-82 to the defending champion Las Vegas Aces.

Brink and Jackson have been competitive in both games but they just couldn’t help carry the Sparks to victory.

Against the Aces, Brink only had three points but had eight rebounds and a game-high five blocks. Her one-on-one duel with reigning WNBA Finals MVP A’ja Wilson was a riveting showdown for fans to see.

The presence of Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson may have worked as a lucky charm for the LA Dodgers. Through the bottom of the third inning, the home team is ahead 6-1 with Shohei Ohtani going 1-for-1 as the Dodgers’ designated hitter.

Ohtani’s countryman Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been stellar, he has already struck out four batters while giving up just one earned run and a walk.

Cameron Brink and Shohei Ohtani have linked up before with New Balance

Just a few days after the LA Sparks made Cameron Brink the No. 2 pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft, she appeared in a New Balance commercial.

She was one of several athletes, including Shohei Ohtani, Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey, who were featured in the ad.

Out of the names on the said commercial, Brink has the biggest to prove. She has yet to win a major award as a pro athlete in her sport. Murray is a former champ with the Nuggets, while Maxey is the newly minted Most Improved Player of the Year. Ohtani, meanwhile, is baseball’s biggest star.
