Indiana Fever standout Lexie Hull celebrated her 25th birthday on Friday. The third-year player, who is leading the WNBA in three-point shot percentage, received a gift from a fan featuring her infamous press conference line from several weeks ago, which drew a hilarious response from Caitlin Clark.
After Hull and the Fever picked up a narrow 84-80 win over the Connecticut Sun on Aug. 28, Hull and Clark appeared together for the post-game press conference.
Hull spoke about the game and her defensive plan in the press conference. She said that her plan on the defensive end of the floor was to get her hands on as many balls as possible. The comment caught Clark's attention, who was quick to laugh at Hull's phrasing.
In addition to Clark, Kelsey Mitchell couldn't help but laugh at the moment off-camera. On Lexie Hull's 25th birthday, one Indiana Fever fan decided to immortalize the hilarious "hands on balls" phrase in the form of a sweatshirt for the Fever sharpshooter, complete with a graphic of Caitlin Clark.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Lexie Hull's mom, Jamie, posted a photo of her daughter with the gift and wrote:
"A gift from a fan… your words keep on giving @lexiehulll ….. (not gonna lie, it did make me giggle"
Caitlin Clark serenades fellow Indiana Fever star Lexie Hull in birthday celebration
While Lexie Hull is celebrating her 25th birthday alongside her twin sister Lacie Hull, she and the Fever are preparing for a highly-anticipated rematch with the Las Vegas Aces on Friday night.
The two teams are fresh off their third meeting of the season on Wednesday, where the Aces extended their series record to 3-0 over the Fever.
Despite that, the game drew in a record number of viewers on NBA TV, making it the most-watched basketball game on NBA TV this season across the NBA and WNBA.
Ahead of the highly anticipated rematch between the Fever and the Aces on Friday night, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever gave Lexie Hull a birthday celebration.
Following their morning practice on Friday, the Fever tasked Clark with singing Happy Birthday to Hull. The moment was captured on camera and shared on the Fever's social media accounts.
Clark serenaded Hull and joked about how the team needed more rookies to help her with the singing before making her way over to Hull, carrying her around as the team cheered on.
