Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon heaped high praise on A'ja Wilson after the veteran center broke another WNBA record. During Wednesday night's duel against the Indiana Fever, Wilson surpassed Jewell Lloyd and set a new record for the most points scored in a single season.
This was another testament to Wilson's incredible campaign. She's been on a tear all year long, despite coming off a championship season.
Hammon took to Instagram on Thursday to share a heartfelt post dedicated to Wilson, lauding her as a player and person. She even said that the no. 22 will become the women's basketball GOAT when everything is said and done.
"Never enough words for how GREAT this woman is as a HUMAN and a basketball player!! Super proud to witness your GRACE, your HUMILITY and the LOVE you pour into everyone around you daily!! Yes you’re a phenomenal player, you’ll be the greatest to ever do it, but YOU as a person will always be my favorite part of YOU!! Blessed and grateful to be a part of your journey!!
"CONGRATS 🍾 on being a ridiculous walking BUCKET!! 🪣," she captioned the post.
In the second quarter of the game, Wilson scored her 12th point of the night against the Fever, breaking the record Lloyd set last season (939 points). Wilson has been terrific on both ends of the court this campaign, but the real challenge is about to start for her and the Aces.
Despite being the fourth seed in the West, the Aces remain a strong candidate to win it all and Wilson is, to many, the biggest reason why.
Stephen A. Smith says A'ja Wilson's dominance can take the Aces to win it all
As she continues her remarkable season, A'ja Wilson keeps getting praise. Veteran analyst Stephen A. Smith remains confident in the Aces' ability to win it all this campaign, noting that Wilson's offensive dominance makes them dangerous contenders.
"I know they're the fourth seed, but I don't give a damn about the three seeds ahead of them. You will have to show me in a playoff series somebody beats A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. I'll believe it when I see it."
Moreover, he praised the center over her good performances, joining Hammon in saying that A'ja is an all-time great already.
"I think she's the greatest player in the game. I think she's one of the greatest players of all time," Smith said on Thursday's edition of First Take.
A'ja Wilson and the Aces face the Fever again tonight, trying to sweep the regular series against one of the hottest teams in the league.
