Chicago Sky fans were not pleased after local journalist Annie Costabile reported on the Indiana Fever potentially signing Stephanie White as their new head coach following Christie Sides' firing. On Sunday, Chicago Sun-Times' Costabile reported that White was considered a lock to lead the Fever.
"Christie Sides’ exit paves the way for the return of Stephanie White, currently the Sun’s coach and a former Fever player, assistant and head coach. Multiple sources expect the Fever job to be hers," she wrote.
Moreover, Costabile also shared a picture of a newspaper featuring the same article, which sparked backlash from fans, who perceived her report as betrayal.
Some fans suggested that Costabile should seek a job at Indiana, while others expressed a wish for her to be 'fired' by the team.
"I hope sky fires you," one fan said.
"You gon Claim That Headline & Picture? I hope an Indy paper has an opening in their sports department...." another fan said.
"You suck!!! Leave Chicago Now!!!!" one fan said.
Other fans accused Costabile of being biased towards the Fever and insisted on calling her a traitor.
"You don't like the team. you're clearly biased towards the fever. you don't write complimentary things about the team and you consistently write articles praising the fever and breaking news about them as OUR reporter we don't want you," one fan said.
The team's subreddit wasn't too happy with Costabile, either, as they jumped on the train to call out the reporter.
Despite suffering all this slander, Costabile responded to the mad fans with a famous meme from The Wolf of Wall Street movie.
Chicago Sky has questions to answer this offseason
The Chicago Sky parted ways with their coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season in charge of the team. Following an 18-22 record, Chicago missed the playoffs, leading to the firing of Weatherspoon.
They are yet to address this situation and find a new coach. Stephanie White was even mentioned as a potential candidate to replace Weatherspoon, but she was bound to join the Fever as soon as her tenure with the Sun ended.
Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso and Chennedy Carter are a good core, but this team needs to make more moves if they want to return to the postseason and compete for titles.
