Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier's husband, Alex Bazzell, shared a cryptic snap of the Washington Square Arch in New York on Thursday and coupled it with a caption mentioning his "love-hate relationship," presumably with the city.
"We have a love hate relationship currently," Bazzell captioned his IG story.
This comes just a few days after the New York Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx in the 2024 WNBA Finals, denying Napheesa Collier a championship. The Lynx, led by Collier, fought hard to force overtime in Game 5 of the best-of-five series before falling to the Liberty.
Alex Bazzell may be reciprocating his wife's emotions in his Instagram story with his claim of a "love-hate relationship" with the city. He previously took to X, formerly Twitter, to share how he felt after the Lynx's championship loss.
"It’s really sad that’s how it ended. Love this team. Go Lynx 💚💙," Bazzell tweeted.
Napheesa Collier calls out controversial Game 5 foul calls in an Instagram post
Following the Minnesota Lynx's championship loss to the New York Liberty earlier this week, Napheesa Collier took to Instagram to share a season wrap-up post coupled with a message of gratitude in the caption.
Alongside a series of snaps of the team, the post also featured snaps of controversial WNBA Finals Game 5 foul calls in the final slides.
"Gut wrenching end to an incredible season. I have loved every minute of being around this team, I love you guys sm you have made this the most incredible year 🫶🏽🫶🏽 Huge thank you to our coaches and staff, you guys are so amazing. And thanks to all the fans for supporting us this season, we’ll be back. 💙💚" Collier captioned.
The most notable of the foul calls came when the Lynx were on the brink of winning the championship with a two-point advantage with five seconds remaining in regulation.
Liberty's Breanna Stewart went up for a potential game-tying shot when she was fouled by Lynx's Alanna Smith, leading to two game-tying free throws for the Liberty.
Though Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve challenged the foul call and it seemed that Smith did not make illegal contact with Stewart, the foul was upheld. Stewart made the crucial free throws to send the game to overtime. The Liberty eventually clinched the win in overtime to secure their first WNBA championship.
With the season concluded, Napheesa Collier will be back in action for the Unrivaled Basketball League debut in January. The league was founded by her and Breanna Stewart and features her husband, Alex Bazzell, as its president.
