Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham shared a poignant moment with a former Phoenix Mercury employee, Derrick Nillissen, on Saturday. Nillissen was a part of the Mercury coaching setup in 2020, where he worked as a strength and conditioning coach. The duo reunited during the Fever's game against the Chicago Sky at United Center, as Cunningham was seen melting during the meeting.Nillissen posted a picture with Cunningham on his Instagram story on Sunday. Cunningham seems to hold a special affinity towards the Phoenix Mercury after being drafted to the league by the franchise in 2019.During her tenure with the team, Cunningham was an important member, making 197 appearances while averaging 22.8 minutes per game. However, she was traded to the Fever during the off-season as she was a part of a four-team trade, involving the Phoenix Mercury, the Indiana Fever, the Dallas Wings, and the Connecticut Sun.In her first season with the Fever, Cunningham has been riddled with injuries, missing four of her team's eight games.
