Ravi Kumar to lead Indian weightlifting team in the Commonwealth games

Delhi Commonwealth games gold medallist K Ravi Kumar will lead the eight-strong Indian men’s weightlifting challenge at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from July 23 to August 3.

Selection Committee of the Indian Weightlifting Federation has selected the final team contingent for the Commonwealth and Asian Games at Incheon,South Korea from September 19 to October 4. Ravi Kumar had won gold in the 69 Kg category at the Delhi Commonwealth games in 2010.

Others who booked their place in the team include Suken Dey, who bagged a silver in 56kg category. Ganesh Mali is another one to qualify in the same section. Omkar Otari (69kg) and Chandrakant Mali (94kg) are the other big names who qualified for the mega-event.

In the women’s team, none of the medal winners from the last Commonwealth games made the cut. Meanwhile, the selection committee also finalized the contingent for the second Youth Olympic Games, to be held at Nanjing, China from August 16 to 28.

All the three lists, however, would be subject to change after confirmation of dope test results from the National Anti-Doping Agency.

Asian Games Squad:
