Christian defended his Intercontinental Championship against Rob Van Dam in a Ladder match on Raw on September 29, 2011, held at Chicago, Illinois. Both men, known for their athletic ability and in-ring excellence, proved their mettle in this championship match. The crowd was very vocal in expressing their support for the challenger – RVD, throughout the night. The Ladder match took its toll on both the wrestlers but Rob Van Dam was able to maintain his composure as he pinned Christian to become the new Intercontinental Champion.
