Geeta Phogat wins bronze at Asian Championship, loses to Olympic gold medalist

Geeta Phogat won gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games 

Indian wrestler Geeta Phogat has secured the bronze medal at the 2015 Indian Senior Wrestling Championship in Doha on Wednesday. She competed in the 58 kg category freestyle event.

She overcame a gritty display by Vietnam’s Thi Loan Nguyen, but Phogat went on to defeat her by fall in the bronze medal match. Phogat only lost to Japan’s Kaori Icho, the 2012 Olympic gold medallist in the category.

In the Men’s section, Hitender reached the bronze medal play-off as well, his match is scheduled for Wednesday.

Phogat (26) has also won the gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and at the 2009 Commonwealth Championships.
