Indian wrestlers have already started to make their presence felt on the opening day of the 2016 Asian Championship.

The first day of the Championship saw the Greco-Roman wrestling – 80 kg, 98 kg, and 130 kg in action. All 3 Indian representatives in their respective bouts managed to bag a medal and continue the resurgence of Indian wrestling.

The Asian Championships, currently being held at the Bangkok Youth Center, is the Phase II of the qualification process for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Hardeep Hardeep gave Indian fans plenty to rejoice after settling for a well-earned silver in the final of the 98 kg Greco-Roman bout by defeating Mahdi Abbas Aliyarifeizabadi from Iran. He dominated against the defending champion, eventually winning 7-0.

Another Indian in the fray, Harpreet Singh defeated Jonibek Otabekov from Uzbekistan to win the 80kg Greco-Roman bronze.

Apart from Harpreet, Naveen Naveen grabbed the second bronze of the day defeating Sun He of China in the 130 kg Greco-Roman bout.
