Narsingh Yadav cleared of all doping charges, will represent India in Rio Olympics 2016

Narsingh Yadav won the 74 kg quota place ahead of two time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar

Despite failing two dope tests last week, Narsingh Yadav’s conspiracy defence has cleared him of all doping charges, with both Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and National Anti Doping Authority (NADA) giving him a clean chit. The WFI also confirmed that his supplements were sabotaged, and the investigation is still being conducted. The 74 kg quota winner can now join the Indian Wrestling contingent in Georgia, prior to his first match on August 19.

Speaking about the exoneration, WFI President Brijbhushan Singh said, “We did announce a potential replacement, however, that was only provisional. We are relieved that Narsingh can now represent India, which everyone wanted. He is a top medal contender for India, and will immediately fly down to Georgia to join the training camp. The rest only he can talk about how relieved he is. We are happy that we could do justice, and I would like to thank IOA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the media who supported us. Generally you see two sections in media, we have seen this time all the media has reported and helped us.”

Thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for helping me in such a difficult situation: Narsingh

An ecstatic Narsingh Yadav said, “I would like thank our Prime Minister Narendra Modi who helped a poor wrestler like me. He didn’t have to intervene, but he did and I am very grateful. I would genuinely thank the Olympic Association and the media for showing the support that they did. I didn’t stop my training in any way and will now continue my training to win gold in Rio.”

Narsingh’s lawyer Vidhushpat Singhania confirmed that he will receive zero punishment. He said, “Narsingh has been cleared of all charges, and he will receive no punishment. If NADA appeals this particular decision, then we will see what to do. As of now, he is off to Rio.”

A 17-year old junior wrestler allegedly mixed illegal substances in Narsingh’s supplement drink. His roommate and international level wrestler Sandeep Yadav also tested positive, raising questions about a potential conspiracy. Both tests on June 25 and July 5 tested positive, however, NADA confirmed that the substance level had substantially reduced in the second test. The perpetrator is said to be a junior wrestler, who has represented India at the junior World Championship. According to the FIR, the junior is also the brother of a senior Super Heavy weight wrestler.”

Former WFI spokesperson, Sangram Singh said, “We are all happy that Narsingh has been cleared, we all knew he couldn’t do this and we are relieved that he has given a clean chit. We are sure he will win a medal in Rio. However, this case should investigated properly to understand why a junior wrestler would do that. It is very important for the Indian wrestling community to be free of all maliciousness.”

According to our sources, Narsingh will be leaving for Georgia tonight.
