On Sunday, India’s last medal hope and Bronze medalist from London Olympics in 2012, Yogeshwar Dutt, made his first appearance at the Rio Olympics 2016. However, it was an unfortunate outing for our Champion as the wrestler lost his first bout to Mongolian Ganzorigiin Mandakhnaran.

India’s campaign at the Olympics ended in a disappointing 67th place finish on the medal tally with only two medals (One Silver and One Bronze).

While medal winners P.V Sindhu and Sakshi malik were appreciated around the country, many questioned the athletes on their failure to win more medals. The athletes who were let down by poor facilities and infrastructure and are not to blame however apologized to the country for their failure to win a medal. One such athlete who took to social media to talk to his fans after the Olympics was Yogeshwar Dutt.

Dutt went live on Facebook this evening where he said: “To all the people who have been saddened because of me and my wrestling (loss), I would like to apologize and request you all to not be sad about the loss; I will wrestle for the country in the futures. I have won in the past and also lost and maybe I will win in the future or lose but whatever I do, I will do it for the country”.

He repeatedly urged the fans and countrymen to not be sad, worried or disturbed by his loss. He also said that he does not worry about critics who always make comments on athletes and told the fans to let them talk it because it shouldn’t bother any of us.

He is only concerned about those who are worried about the nation and those who are concerned about his performances and repeatedly apologized to them.

Yogeshwar Dutt said that he will also work to help his junior wrestlers train better. The Bronze medalist is not worried as there are many more opportunities to win and the next Olympics in four years time. This shows that the wrestler has already recovered from his loss and is focused on winning competitions for the country – a sign of a true champion.
