Former World Champion Sheamus returned to WWE on this week's RAW following his absence due to an injury. However, the 46-year-old recently revealed he thought about retiring from in-ring action two months ago.

The Celtic Warrior's last match was against Adam Copeland (aka Edge) on the August 18, 2023, edition of Friday Night SmackDown. After the bout, he took time off to recover from his shoulder injury. It was also The Rated R Superstar's last in-ring appearance for the Stamford-based company before he joined AEW.

On his return from injury, the former WWE United States Champion defeated Ivar in a back-and-forth contest on the April 15 edition of the red brand. It was revealed that the veteran was also suffering from neck issues and following his impressive in-ring return, Sheamus took to Instagram to reflect on his recovery journey, claiming he nearly thought about hanging his boots:

"The road back to the ring is slow, rough and unimaginally painful. 2 months ago i thought i was hanging up my boots for good but a lot of doctors, trainers and physios helped get me cleared to do what i love.. fight. #thisiswhatwedo," he wrote.

Former WWE Superstar heaps praise for Sheamus

Sheamus won the WWE Tag Team Championship on five separate occasions alongside former WWE Superstar Cesaro, who parted ways with the company in February 2022. He is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling under his real name, Claudio Castagnoli.

Speaking in an interview with WrestleTalk, the 43-year-old expressed his love for his former teammate. The Swiss Superman further praised his former tag team partner for his in-ring ability while referring to him as a workhorse and an asset to any wrestling promotion:

"I love him. I love Sheamus. He’s awesome. Any company that has him has a tremendous asset. He’s just an absolute workhorse. One of the hardest workers in and outside the ring that I know. Absolute maniac in the best sense of the word. So I think it’s always, whatever is best for my friends, for them, and it’s also just fun to see what will happen. But yeah, love Sheamus," he said.

The Celtic Warrior made a much-anticipated return earlier this week. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for the veteran performer as the company embraces the beginning of a new era.
