EGO’S OUT: Liverpool manager Brenden Rodgers wants to see team work from Suarez and Sturridge

Liverpool boss Brenden Rodgers has ordered his strikers Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez to work as a team instead of engaging in selfish pursuits. The Daily Mail reports.

Sturridge has become a hero at Liverpool in the wake of Suarez’s ten match ban for biting Chelsea defender Brainslav Ivanovich. The Reds manager has cautioned that neither of the forwards will be ‘mollycoddled’ when a selection issue rises.

Rodgers has insisted that he will not use the same methods applied by Manchester United and Real Madrid who used a variety of tactics to please strikers Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo respectively following new arrivals at the clubs.

‘Liverpool isn’t that type of club,’ he said. ‘It’s a club where players get told where to play. We don’t mollycoddle them, they are expected to come in and do a job. If they want to be the superstar, if they want to be the individual, they can forget it.

‘It’s about the team and whatever they can bring to the team, they will do. We know what strikers are like, what they want. But I don’t think it’s an issue in this case.’

Sturridge’s form has been red hot this season with the player appearing on the score sheet in all of Liverpool’s games so far.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea forward has partnered with Suarez a couple of times last season but the Uruguayan has always come out on top.

Sturridge has become a fan favorite at the Kop while Suarez has had his reputation dented after trying to move away from the club this summer.

Rodgers has a selection headache on his hands with Suarez ready to make a comeback in the game with rivals Manchester United in the Capital One play off.

‘Neither of them will be the main man. This is based around a team,’ said the straight-talking Liverpool manager. ‘People were talking about Suarez being a one-man team last year, I kept saying we’re not and if you look at the results since, clearly we weren’t.

‘I see them both as people. I was exactly the same at Chelsea, the boys there like John Terry will tell you that.’

‘Sturridge has this myth around him that he was a real arrogant sort, a difficult boy. He’s actually one of the nicest boys I’ve met.”

Brenden Rodgers will visit his former club Swansea with Liverpool on Monday.
