David Miller dreams of playing Test cricket for South Africa

David Miller

David Miller is known to be a T20 specialist. A destructive midddle order batsman and an outstanding fielder, Miller, came into recognition in the IPL. His record in the IPL is nothing but extraordinary where he has scored 1014 runs in 37 matches at a strike rate of 150. Before that he made his debut in the Proteas’ one-day side at age 20 in 2010 and since then has played 71 ODIs. Miller, a regular Dolphins‘ player, has proved time and again in four-day domestic first-class matches that he has the temperament to play in Test matches.

But he is still waiting patiently for the chance to represent his country in whites.

The left-handed Kings XI batsman said, “It is my dream (to play Tests) and I am working really hard for that. I know it may take some time but I am prepared to wait and be patient for my chance. As I said, it is my dream to to play Test cricket for South Africa."

Miller on the chokers tag

Miller started off the 2015 World Cup with a bang, hammering an unbeaten 138 off just 92 balls against Zimbabwe, but failed to continue the momentum in the later stages of the tournament. South Africa crashed out from the World Cup in the nail biting semi-final with New Zealand, losing onto another chance to shed the chokers tag.

However, he disagreed and said, “The focus is very much on doing well for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL but I do feel that we played quite well as a team in the World Cup. And I don't feel the chokers tag holds anymore. I think we have shed that off long ago."

Miller on his batting form and Kings XI performance

"I have had two good starts (23, 24, 9 being his last three scores) and the last game I didn't play. I feel I am where I should be. The game is like that sometimes, even someone like Sachin Tendulkar has had dry runs. I am feeling good about my game and not too far from my best," said the 25-year-old.

Kings XI Punjab have just won one game out of their four games but Miller believes there is no need to panic just now and they are putting their best in every game.

"We have been training pretty hard. The games we lost were close and could have gone either way. I don't think we are too far off from where we should be and everyone is putting in the hard work. It is just a matter of doing the right things and trusting that everything will go fine," said Miller

Miller is playing along the likes of fellow big-power hitters like Sehwag and Maxwell. He said that they don’t discuss much cricket off the field.

“Nothing specific to be honest. We have just been speaking about what we are going to have for dinner and what we are going to be doing in the off time. There has not been a long serious chat about batting so far," Miller added.
